Scottish tortoises?
Posted: 02/01/2017 by caitie1009

Hi everyone

I've been looking into, researching and thinking about getting a tortoise for a while now. This forum has been very helpful in providing information :) I didn't want to purchase anything before I actually knew that I'd be able to get a tortoise though. I'm also not planning on getting the tortoise until summer, at the earliest, but I wanted to be prepared. I couldn't find any Scottish breeders on the list of breeders. I'd love to rescue but my local SSPCA shelter rarely gets tortoises in. I'd really like a Hermanns tort but I could definitely settle for another if there are no breeders in Scotland. I'm situated in the Highlands, but willing to travel up to the central belt. It'd be great if anybody could help :)

Hello,

There are none on the TPG list - ["Buying a Tort...."] box.

You should think twice that far North. You would need to budget for a large greenhouse, for it to have any quality of life if/when adult. Also some very high electric bills.

Regards,
Tom
