Hibernation substrate
Posted: 01/11/2016 by Brummy_Tort

Hi

Just wondering which substrate people think is the best for hibernating a horsfield. I've just got my fridge setup and am testing it out to make sure the temperature stabilizes. The vet recommended using shredded newspaper, whereas others have said sterilized top soil is better? If top soil then should it be slightly damp to maintain a small amount of humidity.

thanks
Darren.

Hello,

You can use either. Aim for 40% humidity.

I assume that you're using the (newly updated) TPG Hibe info..

Regards,
Tom
