Substrate
Posted: 15/07/2016 by gracebrenton2002

Hello,

In about 3 weeks I am going to be bringing home a 1 and a 1/2 month old Hermann's Tortoise, and I have a few questions about the Tortoise table. We are going to put it in the shed, which is insulated. He will also have an outdoor enclosure.

What substrate should we use for his tortoise table, and also is there any particular lamp we should use?

Thank you,
Grace

Hello,

Frankly you should not buying (I assume) from someone who has not given you proper advice.

An insulated shed is ok in summer I suppose, but it would be easier to monitor it in the house. The outside pen will need to be wooden sided & watch it can't escape.

Soil from the garden is fine, keep it slightly moist. Use a 100W Megaray UVB bulb.

Click on "The Tortoise" box for a Caresheet.
Hopefully you are not getting it from a pet trader.

Regards,
Tom

We have got our tortoise from one of the breeders suggested on this website, and thank you for your advice.
