Hello I am adopting a Horsefield from my granddaughter she has got bored! I want to build an outside tortoise enclosure and I have researched how it needs to be done.  The one thing I am not sure about is the best way to provide a heated hutch/den?  Could anyone advise me the easiest and safest option please.

Hello,

Before buying or making an outside house, I'd discuss the matter with an electrician. Safety is paramount. 

Heat mats are not suitable. The type of heater will depend on the size & shape of the 'house.'

Supplementary heat is not needed overnight, indeed I 'd use it only in spells of very poor weather. Horsfields are a hardy species. Don't 'molly coddle' it.
