Oldies hibernation
Posted: 01/03/2016 by sharonive@fsmail.net

I am the carer of 4 elderly tortoises in hibernation the eldest being 50+ when can I expect them to awake and is there something special I should be doing for them. They went into hibernation by themselves as usual in October and are outside in an hutch with the usual protection by their late owner.

Hello,

It will depend on many factors, e.g. how deep in the soil they have buried themselves, how much sun the hutch gets, & the prevailing weather.

It's usually about the end of March, but be vigilant in warm periods from now on.

The period after emergence is critical. Click on "The Tortoise / ….." box & print off the Hibernation pages.
