Any idea which breed my tortoise is? I'm happy for TPG to keep the attached pics and use them on the website if you so wish. We've had him a long time in the family, certainly since the 70's

So that I can be certain which species it is, can you post a pic of the carapace with the head facing you ? Don't disturb it tonight. Why has it got a paint residue on it ? !!! Tom

Here are pic of front and side carapace. Don't know the answer to the paint residue he was passed on to us by my mother in law as she moved to a flat and we have a secure garden. as far as I have witnessed he feeds mainly on the clover and dandylion in the grass and we put out about 5cm of cucumber every day, sometimes he eats it, someimes he doesn't. In the 8 years we have had him he hibernates from November to March depending on the weather, of course. We live in Essex. Do you require pic of the plastron? Thanks for the help David

Thanks for the pics David. He is an elderly* Testudo ibera [spur-thighed]. They come from Turkey, Greece & surrounding areas. Imported between 1976 & '84 only, except for dodgy ones which are getting in now as 'babies'. Click on "The Tortoise" box for a Caresheet. His diet is fine, but you may be able to give him an even better life. Best wishes, Tom * Old but many years left in him.
