New Tortoise
Posted: 30/09/2015 by oopsadais

Hi..I'm hoping for some help..have always wanted a tortoise and today in the local reptile shop they have a rescued tortoise,I believe it may be a Hermann ( they seem very vague ).

I have agreed to rehome it and have paid a deposit but when I asked about housing they said I needed a vivarium later I went back and questioned this because I thought a table set up was more humane and the boss told me that with a table they don't have proper heating..I'm really confused and want to do what's best for it any help would be very much appreciated.. Sorry for long post x

Hello,

You are correct about a 'table' - pet shop advice is not reliable.
They should not be charging for a "rescued" tortoise.

Before buying, I suggest that you ask if you can take photographs, then post them here & the species can be confirmed. There are only a few species which can be kept properly here, of which Hermanns is the best species.
Given that the pet shop is 'vague", make  sure you're not buying trouble.

Regards,
Tom
