Insulated Heated Shed
Posted: 23/09/2015 by 20122207

Hello TPG .I am getting a shed for my tortoises as i want them to have more space and freedom and indoors i cannot do this so i want to move them out into the garden . I have recently bought a 8ft by 6ft shed for my 2 tortoises and i wanted to know how thick the insulation boards should be that i buy . Also i have heard many people using tubular heaters and i know i will need them but how many and at what wattage would i need .

Thanks in Advance - Andrew

Hello Andrew,

Which species & how old are they ?

Insulate as much as possible, then it will be a matter of trial & error to see how many heaters are necessary, to produce a suitable background temperature.
You'll appreciate that you will also need UVB bulbs with dome reflector fittings.

If we have a very cold winter, even a small shed could be rather expensive to heat.

Regards,
Tom
