Hinge back -help
Posted: 11/07/2015 by widow

Hi all,

We recently brought our son a tortoise for his birthday, we went to a large reptile centre in Nottingham, they had a tiny Horsefield about 1 1/2 " or 3 hinge backs they recommended the hinge backs as they were much bigger, I've checked your list of care sheets and noticed there was no info there about hinge backs, I've seen on the web that they need a greater degree of humidity and slightly more heat ? Does anyone know a god resource where I can get good info to ensure we care for the little chap as well as possible
Many thanks Dene

Hello Dene,

I'm afraid this indicates why pet dealers are best avoided.

Hingebacks are not a suitable species for a beginner & the fact that you appear not to have been given detailed written info. is a further indication that the dealers only interest is cash.

You can download a Caresheet from the Tortoise Trust site.

Frankly I would demand a refund & find a breeder of a suitable species. Click on the "Buying a Tortoise" box.

Regards,
Tom
