Keeping an older tortoise outside

I am looking to get an older tortoise that I could keep outside...

Could they be kept outside in a tortoise house ?  it would be insulated with a head pad built into roof of warm area.  They would be brought into the garage in their house when v cold. 

Can anyone advise me on this. 
I'm trying to research as much as possible.

Hello,

They can be kept outside when just a few days old, in appropriate weather, subject to species.

Having read your post, I think that you need to start from scratch & work your way through the TPG site.
