Too warm to hibernate?
Posted: 18/12/2014 by hbowler

We inherited a family tortoise earlier this year and we are now panicking a bit about hibernation. Our tortoise has now not eaten for about 10 weeks, is safely tucked up in her hibernation box but we don't think she is actually asleep. We have no outside building so she is in the coldest bedroom with the heating off but the temperature is hovering around 8 - 11 degrees. Should we get her a fridge and put her in there or should we wake her up and keep her awake or leave her? She is over 50 years old and has always hibernated before. She's lost about 6% of body weigth over the last 5 weeks. She was a good weight when she stopped eating. Any advice very welcome.
