hibernation

hi i have 3 tortoises i always hibernate them using the box method, they are still quite active the other day i put them into the garden as it was very warm and sunny. One of them has buried himself under the ground. I know his location and dont know weather to dig him up and put him in a box or leave him to do what comes naturally. He is a 6-7 year old hermann that has always been healthy. any advise would be great thanks

Hello.

Yes you can if the gut is empty.
Put a cover over if v. heavy rain is forecast. Be prepared to insulate above in periods of severe frost.

Regards,
Tom
