Sexing?
Posted: 08/10/2014 by greendayjlb

Hi, I have a baby horsfield Tilly, was born this year although not sure of which month she's about 2/3 long and sits perfectly in the palm of my hand, how old will she have to be before I will know if she's a boy or a girl, I've assumed she I don't know why.

If it's 2 or 3" SLC it is very unlikely to have hatched this year.

If it's from a dealer, they will say anything & it will be imported.

If it's male it will become apparent eventually.

Cheers,
Tom

I've just realised in my other post I wrote 2/3 cm this isn't right, I've measured her and she's just over 2 inches, that's interesting re not being hatched this year, I wish I could upload a pic as I'm sure her she'll looks like it's growing to fast on one side, again probably down to how she has been kept before, I'm going to go back and speak to them, my husband didn't know any better and didn't consult me as she was a gift, is there any other way I can send you a pic of her Tom as you obviously know your tortoise stuff and I'd be reassured if you see her shell, I'll try uploading again.

I did it I think, if you look at her scutes, it appears as if one side of them is growing faster than the other, she was like this when I got her

No new pic & I can't help I'm afraid. Do you have a techno friend?

If you go to the shop, give them a 'grilling' e.g., exactly how old & bred by ? & where ?

Can't see a serious problem.

They are 'curled up' in the egg & sometimes are a bit asymmetric if  in a dry environment a day or 2 after hatching.

Try a pic from directly above & more close up.
