Face swelling
Posted: 07/06/2014 by OB1

Hi

I Have had my Horsefiled tortoise for 1.5 years and she has always had a slight swelling on the side of her face, it seems to be getting worse and is causing her left eye to be very slow at opening and seems a little swollen, I have bathed her in warm water virtually every day ( Due to work). She seems to be eating fine she will eat a full plate of food consisting of Lettuce, spinage, wild rocket, cooked carrots once a week and cucumber, I also cook green bean ( all advise to feed was from various websites and a hand out i was given at the Tropical centre when i bought the tortoise. can you please advise me if i am feeding correctly but mostly on the swelling on her face.

Kind Regards
Ian

Hello Ian,

Re. diet the wild rocket is good, but the other items are best avoided.
For dietary info click on the green box on the left.

Re. the swelling it could be an ear abscess, or a number of other problems. It will almost certainly be painful & urgent veterinary treatment is needed, preferably a specialist.
For a list of the latter, click on the "Vets & Health ….." box.

Which "Tropical Centre" did you buy her from ?

Regards,
Tom
