i brought a Marginated tortoise 4 days ago he hasnt eat or drink water this is what ive done so far: i did have a tortoise table but he kept climbing out of it so i brought a a 4ft vivarium that i have took the glass out one side (its on the floor) . i have put 50/50 sand and compose at the bottom my step-dad has made a wooden box for a hide for them that he loves, basking light and a uvb lighting thats on for 12 hrs a day ( temp 82'c). i give him clean water and food everyday, also i have been giving a warm bath every night has i was worried that he was not drinking. he sleeps all day till i wake him up and put him under the basking light, then he very active. his eyes are clear dry nose and seem happy in him self. i pulled up some weeds out of my garden but he still not interested. the food i have tried so far are komodo tortoise diet food ,dandelion leaves .kale, crest. carrots, cabbage, leaves i just dont know what to think

Hello,
The odd please or thank you costs nothing.
A few questions first -
How old is it ?
Where did you get it?
What advice (in writing) were you given?
Can you post photos of it please?
With the above info we can try to help.

Thanks for the reply & photos. A very nice tortoise.
Did the lady hibernate it? Part of the problem is that torts of his size should be hibernated & they get very `fed up` if not.
Did the lady give you his weight records? They are needed to check if he can be hibernated. If not, weigh him carefully & keep dated monthly records. Kept outside next year he will peak in weight in August & cease feeding in September ready to hibernate in late October (with an empty gut).
He will need as much room as possible outside, with a 30cm high wooden fence.
Torts need as little handling as possible, so remember that.
Find out all you can from the previous owner.
He will, I think, feed before long.
Let us know.

Is he eating now Gem ?
Read up on hibernation, you will find the info if you browse through the green boxes on the left.
If his weight remains stable, or goes up, you could give him 4 weeks in March.
That gives you & him a taster.

Offer some lettuce, which is not a good food, but most torts love it.
Let us know what happens.
