1) Do you have any other tortoises (Yes/No)?

No.

2) Which species of tortoise would you like rehome? Please be specific, do not say ‘any’ (species specific care sheets and photos are available on the TPG website under “The Tortoise”)
My family and I are most interested in either the Hermanns or the Horsfield.

3) What age & sex of tortoise are you looking for? i.e., hatchling, juvenile, adult or no preference?

No Preference.

4) Please give full details & photos of the outdoor area/run that will be available for the tortoise(s)

We have a very large garden that the tortoise would be able to roam around in (under supervision) we also have a plant section that is fenced which could entertain the tortoise and be suitable for grazing.

5) Have you a greenhouse that can be used to house a tortoise when the weather is cooler (Yes/No)? – If yes please provide photos

If yes, does it have an electricity supply? (Yes/No/Can be installed)?

Yes and no. Our greenhouse is very spacious. With two levels and four panels for different plants (however these can be removed to create a more open plan living environment. The dimensions to our greenhouse are: Length: 44 inches (112cm) Width: 47.5 inches (121cm) Depth: 23 inches (59cm) this is with the roof closed. With the roof open (creating another level) the dimensions are: Width: 46 inches (117cm) Depth: 24 inches (60cm) the tortoise enclosure would be put here during the days of the warmer months (weather permitting) and any other warm sunny day during the rest of the year, then brought inside at night as the greenhouse doesn’t have an electricity supply.

6) Have you a shed or outbuilding that can be used when the weather is cooler (Yes/No)? - If yes, please provide photos

If yes, does it have an electricity supply? (Yes/No/Can be installed)?

Yes we have a garage that is very spacious and can be accessed by the tortoise from our garden patio. If we were lucky enough to re-home a tortoise no cars would be parked in the garage as we have a very large driveway and would want to make the tortoise as comfortable as possible to roam around in.

7) Please provide details & photos of any other shelter that a tortoise can access from outside.

Does it have an electricity supply? (Yes/No/Can be installed)?

The tortoise will be able to access our conservatory from our garden patio. Our conservatory does have an electricity supply.

8) What other pets have access to your garden?

Will these have access to the tortoise enclosure?

We have a four year old Bichon Frise dog called Poppy. She is very timid and has little interest in other animals. She will have no access to the tortoise enclosure.

10) Please provide details & photos of any other indoor accommodation (e.g. Tortoise Tables etc)

This would be our first tortoise and this is the table we have just bought, it would be a perfect fit for a Hermanns or Horsfield as it’s nice and roomy for them, the dimensions for the table are: 30"x24"x8" The table comes complete with a nice attractive routered bracket, e27 ceramic screw bulb holder, 2 meters of heat resistant cable and fitted with a 3 amp plug.
Once the table arrives it will be filled with a bowl of fresh water every day, 50/50 mix of play sand and topsoil along with various mall rocks, flattish stones, slate and upturned flower pots to add interest. During the colder months the tortoise enclosure will be kept in our spare bedroom as it’s very peaceful.

11) Please give details of the diet you will provide.
For the Hermanns tortoise we would feed it the diet of:
Dandelion - flowers and leaves
Grape leaves
Plantain
Sow thistle
Bitter cress Land cress
Dead nettle Clover
Vetch Cats ears
Mulberry leaves Lavatera - flowers and leaves
Hibiscus - flowers and leaves Pansies/viola
(a firm favourite) Nasturtiums
Honeysuckle - flowers only Welsh Poppies
Hollyhocks Rose petals
Campanula (another favourite) Evening Primrose
Wild Mallow Rough Hawk bit
Along with sprinkling Herbiseed making sure it’s the ‘med tortoise mix’

For the Horsfield however we would feed it the natural balanced diet of:
Mixed flowers and dried leaves avoiding fruit and keeping the diet varied by feeding the tortoise a wide range of broad leafed weeds such as dandelion, hawk bits, sow thistles, plantains lovers, bitter cress, bindweeds, shepherds purse, chickweed, hedge mustard, white and red deadnettle, mallows, sedums and vetches.

Both tortoises would be given fresh water every day.

12) Do you have any previous experience of keeping tortoises? Please give brief details, including membership of any clubs or societies, courses taken etc.

13) How far are you willing to travel to collect a tortoise?
We live in Aylesford, Kent so anywhere in Kent would be fine. However we would travel as far as East Sussex, London and Dover.

14) Would you be willing to take on a tortoise that might have health problems and pay any ongoing vet bills it may incur?
