Hi I am new to the group and hoping to learn a lot about keeping tortoises as me and my oartner are looking to adopt one in the near future, I would really appreciate any must know advice before I do adopt

Well done, you are at the right site. All the info you need is in the boxes on the left & sub-headings. 'Must knows' I suggest are: avoid anything exotic, go for Hermanns, Spur-thighed or Marginata, all are hardy & can go outside in summer, where they need plenty of room to display normal behaviour. I say to anyone - no garden - no tortoises.
