Ceramic heat emitters
Posted: 01/06/2013 by AprilShowers

Hi all,
I have decided to move my horsfield tort into my bedroom to keep an eye on her better, she's quite small (approx 2.5") so is in a table that is 18" X 24", I have a uv bulb and a heat bulb which is hooked up to a thermostat.
The problem with it being in my bedroom is that the thermostat keeps popping the heat bulb back on to maintain the temp, is there a ceramic option I can change it to so I can get some shut eye myself?

Thanks in advance

Hello,
They don't need light or extra heat at night. Preferably your tort should be outside in a wooden sided pen (netting over) in this lovely weather, thus reducing your electric bill & giving you a good nights sleep. Perfect solution ?

Initial, I know they don't need it but she has recently been suffering with dehydration so I don't wanna chance her going outside just now, also, the temps here have not been passing 14 C so even if she were healthy, it's too cold outdoors even in the daytime.

From the info I've read online and gotten from the vet, the temp needs to be around 30 C in the day and not drop below 23 C at night, all I need to know is if a ceramic bulb would do the job at night time so I don't need to keep it lit with the basking bulb.

Thanks again

I'm not surprised it's dehydrated kept at those temperatures. I did'nt state out at night. I'm happy to put 2 day old babies out for 6 or 7 hours in the present weather. Perhaps the vet can recommend a ceramic heater.
Regards
Tom
