Hello I am new to the forum and after some advice please

I have a 10 month old female Hermann and was wondering is it normal for the back legs to be out stretched quite often when she is still or sleeping? When she is walking she walks normally on them.

Hi there, are we talking about when it is under the lamp? When a tortoise is warming up they expose the maximum area towards the heat source, sun or heatlamp. This involves splaying themselves out. If torty is walking ok, feeding (and being fed good stuff), and excreting, I would not be overly concerned. It might be worth just checking your conditions closely against those suggested in the care sheets of this site. The dark green boxes on LHS of this page are full of ideas. By the way I assume the egg was hatched at a temperature to promote females hatching. To tell from body shape at ten months is, I would think, hardly possible. Another useful idea is to trawl through the previous questions and answers. That way you will pick up tips to prevent problems and be ahead of the game. Welcome to the site, and enjoy providing a great home for your tortoise. Have you browsed the photo gallery yet?
Regards, David nr York.
