Hi everyone, my name is Tom and I am new to this forum but have a lot of experience with Tortoises. Here is my story. I am in the military and have spent the last 4 years living in Cyprus. Shortly after getting there I found a stray tortoise in my front garden, after no luck in finding an owner, i researched, built, built and built again, making an escape proof enormous tortoise friendly environment. Unfortunately in Cyprus the care of Torts is very poor, pet shops keep them in horrible conditions and are sold very cheaply. Because of this there are a lot of unwanted or ill treated torts out there. Over the years i took in and cared for many many Torts of varying species, all of whom i'm proud to say flourished. I handed over my "sanctuary" to a friend who had helped me when i was about to leave, i was so heart broken i swore i would never do it again. Luckily in Cyprus there was no need for extra lighting or heat rocks etc..... They lived a wonderful outdoor life in Cyprus. So why am i building another Tortoise wonderland again? I miss them:( When my enclosure is complete (about a week) I will be looking to rehome a few Torts. I prefer Hermans, or Spur Thigh but i'm willing to help where needed. As I've witnessed these species in their natural climate, I feel I have a good insight into the correct housing/enclosures for our little friends. Nothing ground breaking but there are one or two things that I will do after what I have learned. Hope to help these beautiful creatures (again) and maybe give some advice where I can.
Thanks for listening.
Tom

Hi there. Have you filled out the TPG form for rehoming? If not then click on the green box on LHS of this page " The Tortoise Rehoming/rescue. I hope you are lucky with your application...I suspect you will be joining a long queue. I remember seeing turtles and terrapins in the wild in Cypress. Fantastic! Regards, David nr York.

I want to return to UK and think that my nine tortoises are happier here than in England. I want to re-home them to good homes where there is more than one tortoise as they are gregarious creatures and like company of their own kind and where they would be safe and cared for for the rest of their lives.

Hi Tom,

Are you still in Cyprus and keeping tortoises?
Best Wishes,
Christine
