Rita (bumpy shell) Was not cared for properly, hence the pyramiding... She was fed on dog food.. But now shes here... they will have a safe forever home..!

Kelly they do look lovely, I guess they won't be spending so much time outside for a while now.  Rita is beautiful despite her bumpiness.

Hi Kelly, Click and drag me down to the editor to the TPG. I LOVE Red Foots, it must have been wonderful to see them outdoors for their first time. Thanks for posting the picture, they are beautiful! Have you had a read through our care sheet for the RF? If you click on The Tortoise on the left hand menu bar you'll find it there. Can you post us some pictures of their in door accomodation as RF are becoming more common and the more ideas we have the better.

Good luck with them Kelly and keep us updated on their progress.

many thanks

Elaine

Have put a couple of Pics in Redfoots-indoor setup folder in gallery.. I couldnt fit the whole table in one photo!.. Its about 5' 5" X 3' 5".... So its lovely and big.. They have a forest bark and topsoil mix.. Which helps keep the humidity up. I feed them weeds, fruit, mushrooms, and animal protein once a week, Its so strange giving a tort meat!.. But they love it!... I have to be careful on Mushrooms too.. They are an absolute fave!.. And believe it or not, their water dish was clean this morning!!.. I bathe them every other day, but they always ave their water bowl.. and they do seem to like stomping through it!

Oh and i forgot to add.. That after much research i have discovered that Bob is a cherryhead.. Rita & Sue are 'normal redfoots'.. Not that i care they are all gorgeous.. and i do have a soft spot for my Rita!!

Kelly, Could you give me the links that you used to enable you to ID the difference between Red Foot and Cherry Head.

Thanks again

Elaine off to look at your pics now.

Kelly, I have just looked at your pictures and was wondering if you can advise me? I have looked in to keeping this species in the future and it was my understanding that the Powersun lights (which i think are in your pictures SORRY if i am wrong) were too powerful for the RF as they were forest dwellers and didn't need the higher UVB. Tortoise information is for ever changing so I was just wondering how you decided on this light source.

Sorry for being so nosey but this is how i learn,

Elaine

Yes the light i use is a powersun.. And i did ahell of a lot of research, When you have hatchlings, or under a year they can be quite sensitive to light, however when they get older they dont seem to mind.. As long as they have hides and like mine have a hide and a bedroom, they can sit in the dark if they choose!.. I have seen all three of mine trying to push each other out the way so they can bask!..

As the differences between them, I can post some pics if you like.. The main difference is the plastron, On a true Cherryhead the plastron is very dark, And on a Normal redfoot their plastron is pale yellow.. Also another main difference is their nose.. On a cherryhead its nostrils are slightly bulbous, and red.. On a normal redfoot they have red head but normal colour nose!

Any other questions fire away!!

Gosh, Kelly, they are really very different, aren't they? We've been having a discussion about cherry heads here, and they are not officially recognised as a sub-species, although they are acknowledged as a variant by the WCT. I had not idea the plastrons would look so different.
