UV Light Help
Posted: 07/11/2012 by Hattie

Hi!

We have got a new horsefield, Hattie, who is a year old. We've bought a tortoise table 90x40cm which has come with a 5% UVA-UVB bulb and a 100W heat lamp. In order to get the right temperatures in the table, we've had to raise the light fittings to 41cm above the floor of the table.

We were hoping to get some advice on whether we need to get a higher percentage UV bulb or whether the 5% is strong enough?

We are new to this and are worried!

Thank you, Jo

I only use 10% or higher, especially at this time of year, as they easily lapse into hibernation wind down. Make sure the uvb strip is nearer to the tortoise than the heat lamp and put a reflector on it to maximise uvb rays to the tortoise.

Hope this helps
