I have collected my tortoise who I have named ZIppy. He is a Herman. I have had confusing advise regarding his diet. I was advised by one person not to feed it fresh veg as suggested by most web sites, and to only feed it plants from garden with a supplement. I was sold tortoise diet mix that is a soft pellet which I note he loves. I have looked at web sites for plants to feed from the garden but I only have pansies, roses and my prize Hostas. I tried him with dandelions but he is not interested. Any suggestions from anyone who has had tortoises as pets for some time?

If you have only had him for a few days, it's perfectly normal for him not to be eating yet, especially if he is a pet shop tortoise, as these have had to endure quite a lot to get here, so will be very stressed.

Give him a few days, but do bath him daily until he starts to eat properly.
