New Horsfield!
Posted: 06/08/2012 by NoolaDoll

Hi everyone. I am hoping to get some helpful advice on here as it seems like a friendly forum as apposed to others out there just used to brag or run newbies down!

I am getting a horsfield next week (Toby!) and while i save for a tortoise table i am hoping to put him into a large clear storage box or a rabbit cage. Im going to use top soil and sand as substrate ... my main confusion at the minute is on lighting

Could someone please tell me what bulbs i need, i do not want to get a combined uv/basking bulb.

thank you in advance for your help :)

Hi and Click and drag me down to the editor

The other alternative is an Arcadia strip light for your UVB and a light bulb for your heat source. I use a combination bulb as I find that much easier to cope, but hopefully someone will come onto the post and give their advice.
I do know that there is a lot of ? marks over the lighting issue and how much simulated UVB they actually get from these sources compared to good old natural UVB, of course our weather is not the best for  outdoor living without any additional heat source, especially when we have hatchlings
