Tortoise scam
Posted: 22/06/2012 by AndyRobertson

Hi there everyone, would like to spread the word about a website called www.tortoiseforsale.org/. My daughter went onto this website to buy me a tortoise for my birthday. Unfortunately once the money had been taken from her account no tortoises arrived. We contacted them with no response, we then contacted the credit card company who are now investigating, our access to them has been blocked and the address is dodgy once i did a bit of investigating myself. I know this was stupid of my daughter to buy a tortoise over the internet, so just spread the word the website looks real, but it is just one big scam

Hi Andy
Thank you for letting us all know, the more we can highlight this site the sooner it will stop incidents like what happened to your daughter. Have you reported this fraud to the police? I will also forward this post onto John Hayward who deals with lost and stolen tortoises, he may be able to pass this to throught the correct channels. So sorry that your daughter lost her money, and the good jesture she was planning for you. Recommended UK Captive breeders is always the best route to go when getting a tortoise

Hi

I have been looking to get tortoises, and I came across this site.  They said that they would be able to deliver to me next week and forwarded on my bank details, since then i have had no contact from them despite sending several emails to them.  Thankfully they have not taken money from my account and i am in the process of getting my bank details stopped.  I am also going to report them to trading standards.

Did you manage to get a tortoise, anyone know of any reputable breeders?

Lisa

Hi
No i never recieved any tortoises, although they did get my money, which was given back to me by my credit card company.
Dont know how you go about getting the site removed, but they must be making a lot of money from it as a few peolple have been scammed by it.
