Hi all sorry forgot to add text to that pic, these are my 2 year old spur thighs in a soil free set up. Charley ate soil and is very poorly and still impacted with it, lots of liquid parafin given, still no joy.So specialist said soil free is best, she has been bad for a bit and will go in for treatment on monday mchell43

Hi
Have you tried lots of warm baths, 2 a day? could try this before Monday to see if it helps to get the soil passing through. I am guessing that a cloacal enema will be done?

Hi Chell
That's good as it takes away the worry that your tort is getting the correct care. Hope all goes well today, please let us know as I am sure there are and will be many more tort owners who will experience this same problem.

Hi Jane, he used bariem, not a clue how its spelt lol. and its in the last stages of coming through her, so far it has not stuck to anything. So we are back on Tue to have another Xray. If she still has not passed anything it will be an enema, but hes not keen on it as shes so small. sort of last resort sort of thing. so fingers crossed, but she is keen to eat and active still.Thank you for asking :)

Hi Chell
Hope everything has passed through now? meant to say last time, do you put his food on some slate or something that he can't eat the soil as well, which prevents them from eating soil and food together, plus if you put cuttlefish and various other grazing foods then maybe he will stop eating the substrate, advice after the horse has bolted I know, but hopefully prevent better than cure

Hi Jane , little Charley has passed some yesterday and also today, final visit at vet today he said all better but still some there which he thinks she will pass now, she had a lot backed up inside her. No more soil as she does eat on a round plastic lid which fits them both on . But they kept stopping eating and walking around, food in soil, soil on lid . So vet said dont use soil, using reptile carpet and bathing both 2 to 3 times a day to keep hydrated. Thanks for asking.. Chell

Hi,
I keep my little one on newspaper in the bottom of her cadge with a baking tray full of tortoise soil for her to dig and scrape in. In that way i keep her food away from the soil.
Is this a good solution or should I remove the soil all together?
Many thanks
Alex and Ifutu
