new tortoise table worries

Hi there I have recently had made 2 lovely tortoise tables for my torty's who I was sold in viv's they measure 4ft x 3ft so loads of room to get into mischief. I have a 6 yr old hermans and an 8 mth old spur thigh, I am using the combined uv and basking arcadia D3 bulbs with a clamp lamp holder and the bulb is 100w but since putting the 6 yr old in her table she appears to feel very cold and unless I get her out of her hide I think she would stay in all day I am now worried she is too cool and I have put off putting the 8mth old into his new table incase he will be too cold aswell please can someone advise please. I only want the best for my torty's.

Many thanks

Chermaine

What are your temps under the basking lamp and in the cool area?

Don't worry, they have become accustomed to the constant temps and may take some time to get used to a different habitat, especially the older one. Tortoises sulk when taken indoors from outside and vice versa. It doesn't last though and so long as you get them up and put them to bask in the morning and put them back in theri hides at night until they get used to it, they will be fine. A considerable drop in temps overnight is good for their well being, it happens in the wild too. They just need to re-learn the instincts they were born with and will thank you in the long term ;) It may help if you have the substrate deep enough to dig down into overnight, so that they can thermoregulate properly.

Hope this helps

Thankyou for your help. Do you think it will be safe enough to put the 8 month old torty onto his table I haven't yet because was worried about the biggy ?

thanks

Well I would be putting the older one outside to be honest and would put the tiny one in a table that can be transferred from indoors to outdoors until he is settled more.
