New, hello!
Posted: 08/06/2012 by Kkoo

Hi, I'm new!
I have always wanted a tortoise since I was very young and am now at last in a position to offer a good home. My family wanted to surprise me with a tortoise for my birthday, I am sooo glad I worked out their plan because now I can properly research and get the best home set up for our new family member :) Also I found this site and all it's useful info!
Having done a bit of reading I am relieved that my family have sourced the tort from a breeder not a pet shop and have commissioned a table to be made for him, they are doing better than I gave them credit for.
I have tons of questions and lots to learn, but for now hello and please bear with me :)

Hello Kkoo, so glad you found this site.

Hopefully you will get your beastie soon, and join those of us who are already completely obsessed! Do not be afraid to ask even the most basic questions.

Do your homework now, by reading as many of the back postings on this site, and the care sheets for whichever tortoise species you decide on, ( Turkish spur-thighed are my personal favourites).

Keep us informed...and happy birthday for whenever it is!

Regards, David nr York.

Hi all, I wanted to thank you for the welcome. Wanted to share with you that after a great deal of thought I decided that although I have always wanted a tortoise in my family, that I couldn't commit to care for one. My family were going to surprise me with one for my birthday, and I'm so glad they told me because I feel it's really important to only take on a tortoise if you really truly can commit to it for your lifetime, I just couldn't say that I will always be equipped to care for one. So I am really sad but think its the right thing. I hope anyone looking to get a tortoise takes it seriously and really investigates their needs fully. This website is so helpful and supportive, keep up the good work, kkoo.
