Hi
Does anyone use infra red heat lamps like the type used for raising poultry ?
I was thinking about one for in the tort house as the day heat source
Thanks Carl

Do you mean in an outdoor shelter or the hide of an indoor setup. Generally lighting needs to be clear to simulate the sun. I don't use red lamps for anything tort wise ;)

HiI
It's in a kids summer house 5 x 5 it's got windows on 3 sides so there's plenty of natural light but I was thinking they have a bigger heat area as its over a foot long and can be hung were they sit in the morning sun without blocking the sun out !
Thanks

To be honest I would be more inclined to use a tubular heater, one that gives off no light and set on a thermostat so that it only comes on if the temps go too low. I'm  not a fan of red lights at any time and anything obvious to them is more likely to encourage them to stay indoors rather than venture out. If you have a clear door that they can see through ie dog door or clear plastic strips, then if they are warmish, they will venture out to where the light is and beenefit from the suns rays, even on cooler days.

hope this helps

They use the door well enough but at the moment I have to use 4 100 watt bulbs to give them heat to go back into if it gets cool , this lamp was 200 watt and does a bigger area so I just thought it may have been worth a try ?
Thanks

Try it on a stat and see how it goes. If you already have it, it's worth having a go and you've not lost anything if it doesn't work ;)

Got it from work as its not used and it's got a stat on it already so would only need to hang it , just didn't know if there was a particular health reason as to why you shouldn't use one ?
Il give it a try Thanks

I wouldn't have thought so, as the heat lamps I use in the outdoor covered areas are infrared, just clear infrared, the same as for pig lamps ;)

Good luck
