Illegal Tortoise Trade
Posted: 02/05/2012 by TPGDarren

Hi,

The Police would like to hear from anyone who can provide information on the illegal trade in Tortoises or other reptiles.
Working with the National Wildlife Crime Unit and Animal Health, The Wildlife Unit from Essex Police are eager to talk to anyone who has information on the illegal trade in Tortoise or other reptiles. PC 677 Andy Long, who is the Force Wildlife & Environmental Crime Officer recognises that some people have concerns about the legality of tortoises being traded in the UK or even worldwide, but do not know who to contact to raise their concerns. PC Long would urge anyone who has information to contact the Wildlife Crime Officer in their local force, or if they do not know who that is to contact him and he will send the information onto the correct officer in the responsible force. Also if there are any queries you would like to discuss regarding the illegal trade in Tortoises please feel free to contact PC 677 Long on 101 (Ask for Essex Police, and extension number 400343) or by email wildlife@essex.pnn.police.uk and he will do his best to help you. PC Long has contacts with all other Forces WCO's and worldwide via the National Wildlife Crime Unit.

HTH & please don't hesitate to contact the above directly, or please feel free to drop us a line.

Hope you've been having a good weekend
Best Regards
Darren
