my tortie is wide awake in the fridge
Posted: 03/12/2011 by sazollie

I hibernated my Hermann tortoise last year in the fridge without problem - he was 4 yrs old. This year I have followed exactly the same process, but after two weeks in the fridge he is still awake and has lost 6% of his body weight already. the fridge is the correct temperature. My instinct is to get him up. What have I done wrong this time? His pre-hibernation weight was good and he was healthy in all respects.

Hi

What temps are showing on your fridge thermoters?
When you say awake do you mean he moves his head in and out when you look in to check on him, or is he wide awake and trying to get out? Is the weight loss including from when you started the winddown or from when you put him in the fridge?
