Click and drag me down to the editorHi, we have been thinking about buying a Tortoise for a while, we were given some bad advice at a large pet store, telling us to buy a vivarium. Luckly we didnt and are ordering a table. Can you recomend a Tortoise that would be suitable, I have four older children and no other pets .

Cheers Ruby

Hi Ruby,

I would be inclined to recommend either Spur-Thighed Tortoises, Hermanns or Marginated tortoises. All of these are hibernating species and are more suited to the UK climate than many other species of tortoise. Also, whilst they do dig down, they tend not to tunnel as Horsfields do.
