missing tortoise
Posted: 11/10/2011 by SusieB

Rosie the Hermans tortoise went missing from the garden in Colwich (Staffordshire) on the 27th September when the weather suddenly became hot. She is about 7inches long. I suspect that  someone picked her up as she would have been wandering about in the heat and someone would have ween her, although there have been no sightings. With the weather changing she will now be hibernating somewhere if she is outside but I am very concerned for her health as she has never stayed out in the winter before, I carefully hibernate as I have done for the past 19 years. I am desperate for any information and her safe return. If she has hibernated outside hopefully she will emerge next spring so please be on the look out . Thanks

Hi Susie,
Dont give up hope, we hear of torts emerging the following spring.
But meanwhile, I would keep searching under all plants in borders, I found one of mine recently, in the long grass at the edge of a border, that I hadnt got round to trimming, she had dug herself down in it. Also, try poking a cane into the soil, and you may come across her just below the ground.

You could also post flyers around the area, and in petshops/vets just incase anyone has handed her in.

Please keep us informed, regards Vivienne
