hermann's breeders
Posted: 18/03/2011 by scarlet.angel

Hi, i am looking for a baby hermann's in the south wales area. there is a pet shop near me that sells torts but i dont want to get one from a pet shop as i have read a lot of bad stories, and there are internet sites willing to send them via courier but i think that is out of the question (as this cant be healthy for a tort). i have done a lot of research and know i can give a tortoise a good home..... so if anyone knows of any breeders near south wales can you let me know plz.

Hi Carrie-Ann,

Click and drag me down to the editor to the site, I am glad you are thoroughly researching before buying a tortoise, as they are a very long term committment.  You are right not to buy from a petshop or internet dealer, you only have to read some of the sad stories from our members on this site to see how bad it is for imported torts.

We have a list of UK breeders http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/files/TPGApprovedBreedersListApr2011.pdf I'm not sure if any are by you, but you may find that you will have to travel to find one, especially at this time of year, as they are just coming out of hibernation.

Please let us know how you get on, and dont forget to read our comprehensive care sheets, see the lefthand menu, they are under 'the tortoise' and also the examples of our members indoor and outdoor enclosures, under 'Photo Gallery'.

Hi Vivienne, thanks for your reply.

I have tried to go on that link but its not working (might just be my lap top playing up) when i click on it, it brings up a blank page! is there any other way i can get hold of this list? I also dont mind traveling to get one either.

I have had a good look at the indoor and outdoor enclosure pic's and they are very helpful and so is the rest of this site for someone like myself who is looking into keeping a tort , i am goin to go with an indoor rabbit cage with a combined heat/uv lamp as this seems very suiteble for a little tort, i also have a large back garden where i can bulid a suitable outdoor enclosure.

tanks for your help i will keep looking. carrie ann

Hi Carrie-Ann, try this link (it works for me!)  http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/files/TPGApprovedBreedersListApr2011.pdf

If it still doesnt open you can go straight to the page, look on the lefthand menu, under 'Buying a Tortoise' one of the drop down options is 'breeders list'.  Let me know if you have any problems.

Regards Vivienne

Hi carrie-ann

I purchased my 2 Hermann babies from an excellent breader who comes from the West Midlands (jacquiscaptivebredtortoises.com). She really cares for her torts and they are really tame etc.....she delivers them to your home, you just have to contribute for the fuel. She likes to see the set-ups etc.... I would recommend her VERY highly.

She even helps with aftercare even if its months/ years after purchase. Any problems you just e-mail/text/phone and she will help you with any queries/problems etc.....

Hope this has been some help in your quest. If you need any more info you can e-mail me. (amandarobbens@yahoo.co.uk)
