Possible illegal traders
Posted: 29/02/2012 by mcallanan2007

Went on the website and asked if they provide paperwork with the huge selection of tortoises that they sell - they said that you don't have to.... checked address and they have made it up (postcode doesn't even match), said people can't collect either "due to security reasons". What can I do as I believe that they may be selling illegally traded or stolen tortoises?

Help please!!

Hi there, yes it is an odd way to trade. I have followed links and agree you should inform DEFRA. If all is well, nothing lost...if not, then you certainly did right thing. An update here would be really useful.

Regards, David nr York.

Apart from the fact that I object strongly to the sale of tortoises (or any other animal for that matter) on the internet.........

The address given on this web site is 9 Coombe Lane, Croydon, Surrey, CR9 5BX.

This sounded odd to me, so I looked at the Royal Mail post code finder web site http://www.royalmail.com/postcode-finder-sme . Sure enough, the address is bogus, there is no No 9 in Coombe Lane.

Thankfully, I think it safe to say that there will be no tortoises at risk here, however, I don't think the same could be said for cash.

Looks like a certain scam to me.

I had tried to buy from this website and they made no contact after payment was taken.... I then find out they had set up a fake PayPal account with my card detail but not my email or telephone number.... I would like to make as many people aware of how fake they are and fraud.

I payed £100 for a leopard tortoise on this website (stupidly not researching on this website). The tortoise hasn't been delivered and no reply to any of my emails. Very annoyed.
