Diet? Bell's Hingeback?
Posted: 23/10/2011 by ben123

Hi,

Was given a tortoise yesterday that was living in horrible conditions.  Have been told it is a Bells hingeback.  I know a bit about tortoises lights etc. but can anyone give me an idea of diet.

Thanks.

( the pic is not great as he is so so shy!)

Hi,
Bells are a very rare tortoise so it is very hard to get a accurate care sheet!
Diet needs- Weeds, greens, fruit.
Sometimes these tortoise have also been known to eat meal worms and also dog/cat food but if you were going to take this advice on I would only feed it this every 2 - 3 weeks as dog/cat food is not natural.
Good luck with your new tort!!

Hello again. Wow, what a beast! I have never seen one in the flesh. You are very fortunate indeed, give 100% attention and do your research. It will be very rewarding for you and especially torty. Keep us informed, thanks for the photo.

Regards, David nr York.

Hi
I have Bells Hinges too. I can advise on diet based on my researching on web and experience with mine?
Its usual for them to be shy.
