Help

I wonder if you can help, I have had Tony a Hermann Tortoise aged 5 for about 5 months and everything has been going great, until recently he's sleeping a lot and gone off his food. I'm not sure if he's ready to hibernate as he hasn't so far in his life, so I was told when I had him, or if I should get him checked out by a vet. I have looked for the usual signs of white mouth runny eyes and nose, and these all seem to be ok. When we wake him up for his bath he still like his little cuddle but then quickly goes to sleep as before he would have a walk around the house. As far as I know he only went outside in the summer time otherwise stays indoors.  Could you advise?

Hello,

Yes it may be an urge to hibe.. Ideally a 5yr hermann's can be left out [with a night house] to wind down & hibe. in mid-late Oct. thro' to late March. I know that wasn't poss this year.

To be sure there is no underlying problem you need to get it feeding.
Can you send pics of his accommodation pls & full details of UVB supply & temp. regime, diet, etc.

Tom
ps House exercise is not good. Reasons are on the site as you work thro' it.
