Horsfield advise
Posted: 15/12/2016 by Teds Dad

Hi everyone, hoping someone can offer advise, we adopted our Horsefield Ted in May from a reptile re homing centre, he has developed a cracked beak so we took him to the vet yesterday but they werent very knowledgeable about tortoises ! In fact they charged £26 and the vets knew less than us , can anyone offer advise on his cracked beak or recommend  a good vet who actually knows about tortoises ?

We heard the beak can be trimmed but they didnt have a clue how to do this, he has a cuttlefish but has never showed any interest in it .we live in South Yorkshire .

Hello,

Ark Veterinary, Sheffield. 0114 2470828.

Discuss the prob. & pricing b4 making an appointment, to avoid shocks. Note that vets have huge costs - rent, equipment, staff, etc..

Smash & shatter the boney side of cuttle, so that the soft part is exposed. It may not need it, if it has other forms of calcium.

Regards,
Tom
